Benny Sinclair has quickly proven in 2019 that he is an artist on the rise. His latest record release which has been garnering attention from fans and critics alike, come in the form of "Assumptions," which bring his genius songwriting to the world. Throughout the record his scrumptious vocals and promising lyricism are surrounded by beats and instrumentations that will have you intrigued immediately. Benny Sinclair stopped by recently to share some of his insight on the new release and beyond... let's dive in shall we?

  1. What is the inspiration behind your latest record "Assumptions," which is out now?

My life and experiences and passion for hip hop music. The album is the third instalment of a planned four album project which touches on the four agreements, which I use as a guide for personal freedom.

2.What made you discover your passion for creating an eclectic blend of your own sound?

I like to be original and inspire others through my music. I listen to a variety of music from around the world. The city I live in Melbourne is renowned for being very multicultural. My mother is originally from Germany & her heritage is mixed including East  European, Jewish & Middle Eastern & My father is Australian born his heritage is mostly Scottish & African. Knowing that Im mixed heritage inspires me to embrace the diversity & express this through music & create my own sound!

3. What places in your mind do you channel to craft your songs?

The beat inspires me to rhyme & sing out loud what I’m feeling inside when I hear it. I then write, reflect, reminisce on life experiences, the message or story I wish to tell & bring this to life through my lyrics & the music.

4. What are your favorite venues to perform at? and if you had to choose, do you feel more comfortable in the studio or onstage, and why?

I love preforming to the big crowds that vibe & interact with my music. Some of the most fun performances have been at impromptu events, where I’ve been put on the spot and called on stage to freestyle or perform some of my tracks. The audience really seem to embrace you when this happens & their responses are priceless.  Being in the studio is where the magic happens, it is the creation & it’s a very special moment when you first lay down a new track. The stage gives you an opportunity to grow as an artist, also grow your music to a wider audience & entertain the crowd. Magic can definitely happen on stage & it’s also something very special. Its the musical circle of life, but it all begins with the creation of the music, so for that reason, if I was to choose I would say Studio!

5. How do you create your songs? What is the process like? Does it take you days, weeks, even longer? How does the perfect piece come together?

I listen to a variety of songs and think about what elements I like particularly about those songs. This encourages me to think of ideas. At that point I go into the studio with my producers and we create a new track together. My producers know my sound and quite often send me beats. I write to the ones that inspire me the most.

6. How did you create a sound throughout time that is so uniquely your own? What defines your sound to you?

I decided I wanted to have my own finger print as a hip hop artist. I love reading up on history and the people I admire the most seem to have always done things their own way. This has inspired me to take a similar approach to my music, by always mixing up my hooks, raps and flows and using a variety of beats. Which in turn has created my own unique sound and the ability to tell a variety of stories.

7. This year is shaping up to be a great musical year for you. What do you hope to accomplish as we head further in 2019?

The album Assumptions was just released this November and will be distributed over US radio. I have a new video ‘Jungle’, which is the second track off the album, dropping very soon. I’ve put together a show under my label ‘Dime & Ruff’, which I will be performing at, as well as show casing other local artists. I would love to come perform in the states early next year.
